ENGLISH
Rare dutch record from ca. 1929/1930 with two songs "Goed Sjabbos" (gut shabbos) and "nachtgebedje" (little night prayer). It was sung by the jewish children's choir "De Joodsche stem" (The Jewish Voice). Jacob Hamel, the director, was very famous in the Netherlands. In pre-war time he was associated with the liberal broadcasting organisation AVRO. Together with his "AVRO's kinderkoor" (children's choir) he produced many records and had many performances on the radio. After the occupation by the germans in 1940 he lost his job and was murdered in 1943 at Sobibor.
After WW2 the broadcasting organisation AVRO set up a new children's choir with the name "Kinderkoor Jacob Hamel", in honor of the director.
